Biography
Oliver is a classical tenor and a second-year undergraduate student at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He is on the Vocal and Opera Studies course under the tutelage of Sam Queen. Alongside his academic studies, he is an active member of the College Chamber Choir and recently performed in the opera chorus of the RNCM’s production of L’amour de Trois Oranges.
Since September 2025, Oliver has been working as a Lay Clerk at Manchester Cathedral under the direction of Christopher Stokes. In this role, he sings regularly as part of the Cathedral Choir’s liturgical and concert schedule. Recent performances have included the choruses of Handel’s Messiah and Bach’s St Matthew Passion.
Before moving to Manchester, Oliver spent the 2023–2024 academic year as a full-time Tenor Choral Scholar at Peterborough Cathedral under the direction of Tansy Castledine, where he is now engaged as a Deputy Lay Clerk. During his time there he also performed professionally with Peterborough Chorale and Oakham Choral Society and collaborated with Ensemble Pro Victoria.
Oliver’s musical training began at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, where he studied first-study singing with Jean Claude Ohms. While there he sang with both the Chamber Choir and the Parry Voices, performing at venues including St James’s Piccadilly, Wigmore Hall, and the Royal Albert Hall. From 2019 to 2022 he was also a member of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain.
Oliver is thoroughly enjoying his studies at the RNCM and looks forward to continuing his musical development in Manchester.
